Samsung has posted an invitation on it’s website to the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2015 event. It will be held in Barcelona on March 1, 2015 at 12:30 pm EST; a day before the Mobile World Congress.
The widely anticipated Samsung S6 is expected to be announced at Unpacked. Samsung typically launches the next generation of it’s flagship ‘S’ model after it has launched its Note model. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was launched in October 2014 after it was announced at IFA 2014 in September 2014. Moreover, the Samsung S5 was announced at last year’s Unpacked 5 in February.
With all the spec leaks and rumors spreading, you don’t have to be a witch doctor blowing out a cloud of cigar smoke in which to see the future to figure out that S6 will be announced at Unpacked.
The S6 is expected to run on 4GB of Ram. It’s also heavily rumored that it will have a curved edge like the Note, and it will be housed in an aluminum unibody chassis like the iPhone 6 and HTC One. The image on the Samsung Unpacked registration page appears to be the side of a metallic phone with a curved edge. In addition, during its last earnings call, Samsung said it was capable and prepared to manufacture phones with metal cases.
An enlarged opening on leaked schematics for Samsung S6 phone covers practically confirms that it will have a 20 megapixel camera.
Some rumors also suggest that the S6 will start to use the Exynos processor that it has used on other S models. While mobile chipmaker Qualcomm lowered revenue expectations, it confirmed that its Snapdragon 810 wont be built into any “large customer’s flagship device.” Bloomberg also reported that Samsung would not be using Qualcomm chips for its phones because the Snapdragon 810 chip overheated during testing.
