HBO documentary, “Going Clear: Scientology and Prison of Belief” will premiere on March 29 at 8pm. Oscar winner, Alex Gibney is directing.
The film contends that the Church of Scientology manipulates, threatens and even tortures its members.
Former members like the Oscar-winning director, Paul Haggis, of the movie “Crash,” explained why he left the church in 2009 after being a member for decades.
“I was really stupid,” Mr. Haggis said. I was part of this for 30 years before I spoke out,” he says in the film. “I was deeply ashamed.”
The church took out full-page ads in the New York Times and Los Angeles Times accusing the documentary of lying, a week before its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
HBO just posted an official trailer to the documentary earlier today.
