I don’t smoke a cigar while reading cards to tell the future, nor did Doc Brown lend me the keys to the Delorean to see how this pans out, but personally, when I’m using my digital watch, I think it would be cumbersome if I had to take my watch off each night to charge it; I don’t even notice I have it on until I look for the time. Moreover, my digital watch actually serves as a flash light I use to walk through my room if I have to wake up for a cup of water or a bathroom break in the middle of the night. If I left it charging somewhere, it wouldn’t be as easy to use in such a capacity.
However, when I use my $800 Movado dress up watch (price is revealed only for context not for bling show off points, I promise) I do take it off when I come home; partially to put my relatively more utilitarian $30 digital watch back on. So I don’t know if I would want to buy the Apple Watch as my phone is a more advanced version of it. Nonetheless, it does free me from having to carry and regularly drop my phone, which is an advantage.
But, let me point out, this comes from probably THE last person to acquire a cell phone because I didn’t want to be easily contacted. Twice clients had to actually buy me one, so they could stay in frequent contact with me; one in 2003, and another in 2006. So it’s not until it becomes a relative necessity that I purchase new technology. For instance, I just bought the Samsung S6 because my older Samsung Stratosphere with the keyboard starting to drain it’s battery in only a couple of hours when previously it lasted a day. The screen button you swiped to take calls also started freezing, and I couldn’t zoom into images that clients and prospects were texting me. I finally got used to using the on-screen keyboard swipe feature, so the qwerty keyboard became unnecessary.
But I’m only one out of the 5 billion of you out there who will be exposed to this thing. I seriously think they have to make the battery life of the watch a lot longer. With the probability that this thing may not even last 19 hours of active and passive use, I would probably only buy one to show it off. And I would keep my $30 piece handy to put it on when the iWatch is left charging.
